Must Read Books For Entrepreneurs That Want To Succeed

You can learn so much from reading books! And that’s why many of the really successful entrepreneurs do it. Well, but where to get started? I researched 3 of the must read books for entrepreneurs you can order right now and start reading. I hope you enjoy the list.

1. “Zero to one: Notes on startups, or how to build the future”
– Peter Thiel

Entrepreneurs constantly are faced with the choice of either doing something better or something new… Peter Thiel, a co-founder of PayPal, says that it’s better to go from zero to one, which means to build something new.

This book delivers completely new and refreshing ideas on how to create value in the world.”
–  Mark Zuckerberg

Thiel writes in this book that there are 7 questions every business must answer:

  1. Can you create breakthrough technology instead of incremental improvements?
  2. Is now the right time to start your particular business?
  3. Are you starting with a big share of a small market?
  4. Do you have the right team?
  5. Do you have a way to not just create but deliver your product?
  6. Will your market position be defensible 10 and 20 years into the future?
  7. Have you identified a unique opportunity that others don’t see?

2. Creativity, Inc.: Overcoming the Unseen Forces That Stand in the Way of True Inspiration”
Ed Catmull

Fail early, fail fast, fail fearlessly. That’s the secret for successful innovation. You will fail, that’s for sure, but if you do it early and fast enough it will cost you less and you will learn faster. Don’t see failure as something bad, but as an opportunity. “Creativity, Inc” is sure one of the must read books for entrepreneurs.

“Just might be the best business book ever written.”

Pixar is sure one of the most creative companies out there. Pixar created the first all computer animated feature film “Toy Story” when everybody else said it could’nt be done. Well today we are grateful Pixar did what they did (and they are too)!

3. “The Effective Executive” – Peter Drucker

“The Effective Executive” is another of the top books for entrepreneurs. Being effective does not require special skills… Every effective person had to learn how to be effective first. Effectiveness has to be practised until it becomes a habit.

“Long recognised in business circles as a voice to listen to”
– Harvard Business Review

Effective executives:

  1. Manage time
  2. Focus on contributions and results
  3. Build on strengths
  4. Set the right priorities
  5. Make effective decisions

I don’t like too long lists, because then you still don’t know what to pick. So I did the research for you and already picked the best must read books for entrepreneurs. The only thing you have to do now is to order and start reading! I hope you’ll enjoy reading this books and that you’ll learn something new out of it.

11 Comments on Must Read Books For Entrepreneurs That Want To Succeed

  1. Up until recently I was pretty sure that I was more a visual learner than a text learner – I seemed to pick things up a lot quicker if they were on a screen in front of me (video). I feel I am slightly missing out on a lot of info unless I try to get into the book side of things more – especially with regards to my online marketing business! Will be checking this selection out…

    • I know what you mean! I learn a lot faster with video material, because I am more of a visual-learner too and watching videos is more entertaining than reading a book (at least for me). But what I learned is that books can give you so much more value than watching a video… I am not the reader-type, but sometimes a good book is the right way to go 😉

  2. Great list of books! I think the book I’m most likely to read first is Creativity inc. I think it’s just good advice to fail early on in your journey to success. This way you can quickly correct your mistakes and carve out a better road to success. I couldn’t agree more that failing is an opportunity. Which is your favorite book on the list and why?

    • Creativity Inc. is sure my favorite one becauseI can identify myself more with that book, I have the same opinion… The other two books are great too, but they didn’t touch me like Creativity Inc.

That you will make mistakes on your journey is 100% sure… The important thing is what you do when they happen…

Having the right mindset is one of the most important things to succeed!

  3. Hi Sirio

I have seldom seen such a short and effective post.

Entrepreneurs experience numerous challenges. The books you’ve listed seem like awesome reads.

And these are important topics, especially for us online entrepreneurs. We need creativity because without that, we’ll get stuck. We need to effectively manage ourselves and our time usage. That is a priceless skill we have to master.

Thanks for a short and lovely post.

    • Hi Peteni,

thanks for the comment 😉 Yeah, I tried to choose 3 books that are all interesting but also teach us three different things. Creativity sure is a key to success!

      I like being to the point… 🙂

  4. Hi Sirio, I like motivational books, and the list you have provided offers some really good ideas. I particularly how you provided the gist in easy-to-read pointers. #2 caught my attention and I am curious about how failure can lead to success. I think #3 is a great book too. I have browsed through it at a bookstore and find that it offers many good suggestions on how to lead effectively.

    • Motivational and inspirational books! There is much to learn. My favorite is #2 ! One thing I learned is that you will fail… at some point you will fail for sure! That’s why it is important to make those mistakes as early as possible and to learn from those mistakes for the next time.

  5. Thank you for this post. I have read Zero 2 One and I love that book. I am going to add the other two into my list of must reads. I love expanding my entrepreneurial mind with a good book.

Have you ever heard of the book mastery? I think that is a good read for anyone in business

    • Hey there, good to hear that somebody enjoyed reading the book 😉

I think I’ve heard of it, but I didn’t read it yet… I am gonna add that book to my list !!

  6. That’s a nice list of books. I have read “The Effective Executive” by Peter Drucker. A very nice book. If someone has read it yet i encourage you to do so.
